Our experiences of helping with technical feasibility studies have mostly involved developing partial prototypes, either PC based, or via modifications to existing hardware or development kits.

We believe that with embedded software, the devil is mainly in the detail, and the lowest risk method of ensuring something will work reliably and perform correctly is to try it out. The skill comes from identifying the important parts of the system that have the largest bearing on it's reliability and performance, and prototyping those parts in a more controlled context.

Tools that we have developed that allow running target code in a PC simulation environment, and tools for logging a real executing system are vital support in our ability to prototype and test the key parts of a system.
